Manaslu Valley, Nepal

Carly Valerious ‘23

Before leaving for the Nepal block abroad I had only heard about the notoriously rowdy and wild trip to south Asia through stories from alumni. From 7:00 am to 9:00 pm everyday, we moved up through the Manaslu valley, speaking to every person that the best professor duo– Miro Kummel and Brot Cobourn– could possibly introduce us to. Nepal has the tallest mountains in the world, and within those mountains live tight knit communities who have been at these high altitudes for centuries. We discussed almost every topic you could imagine: glaciers, Tibetan Buddhism, agriculture, international influence and even mountain building processes, but the list goes on. Not pictured are the many students experiencing a long whirl of the poops from all the delicious lentils and rice. The photos that follow are a small peek into the very busy, flying by the seat of our pants, but extremely rich month in Manaslu this June.

Photographed on an early 80s Canon EOS, Kodak 400 film

All images were taken in the Manaslu Valley in Nepal.
