Persie Baroody ‘25

Film, especially black and white film, has a way of making you compose each image and notice every detail in a way digital doesn’t. My first block this year was an alternative processes photography class, taught by the wonderful Christa Blackwood and Heather Oelkaus. Going back to the basics in this class, and taking away color, brought me back to why I began photography in the first place: storytelling. I was able to capture simple day hikes on black and white film, telling the story of each day through images that evoked more emotion from me than digital color images ever could have. I hope you feel a similar way when you see this collection.

Photographed on a Pentax k1000/Holga toy camera and Arista EDU 400 film.

Shot, developed, and scanned by Persie.

All images were taken on the land of the Cheyenne, Ute, and Apache people.
