Taking Search and Rescue to New Heights

Katherine Beard ‘24 and Matthew Silverman ‘23

Matthew and Katherine worked with the Alamosa Search and Rescue Team (AVSAR) and the Cañon City Helitack team while reporting and photographing for the Crestone Eagle newspaper. AVSAR has been working with Helitack to go through STEP training which allows them to enter and exit rescue situations using helicopters that have one skid, hover, and overall riskier landing capabilities.
