plant family portraits

8.5" x 5.5"

Watercolor

“This series was done for my field botany block. We spent the block learning how to I.D. Plants through specific characteristics and memorizing the Latin names associated with each. I thought it'd be nice to illustrate a few of my favorite families we talked about with a few different species pertaining to each on each page.”

from the roots up

30"x5”

woodblock print with ink

The piece was done with three separate small blocks of wood that I connected in the press. This project was done for a printmaking block at CC. The project was to use three separate woodblocks to show a progression of something happening. I thought it would interesting to depict a scene starting below ground that progresses through the stages of the forest floor; roots, mushrooms and the canopy.
